As a Certified Green Professional, Sean Halsey and his team are passionate about reducing the environmental impact with green building practices. This certification is important for our homeowners that desire more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly construction practices.   Also known as Sustainable Design, the practice of Green Building includes techniques and skills that reduce the impact that housing can have on the environment and the homeowner’s health and finances.

The Halsey Homes team includes both RESNET and BPI certified personnel on staff to provide a full evaluation of services on your energy usage as well as recommending and implementing the recommended energy improvements. We are committed to provide every homeowner with a home that is HERS Rated through RESNET, assuring an HERS score that will save the homeowner money. The ratings may include duct leakage testing, blower door testing, carbon monoxide testing, visual inspections and whole house evaluations. We are confident that your will be totally satisfied with the added value to your investment.

The BPI certified personnel posses the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to conduct comprehensive building performance audits, including assessing whole-building ventilation, measuring airflow, combustion safety and testing/data collection.

What is the HERS Index?

• It’s a linear scale, with 100 meaning the rated home has the same energy use as the HERS Reference Home.
• The HERS Reference Home is based on definitions in the HERS Standards, with some specifications based on the 2004/2006 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
• The HERS Index includes the energy consumption from heating, cooling, water heating, lights, and some appliances.
• Each one-point change on the HERS Index scale represents a 1% change in energy efficiency.
• A HERS Index of 0 means the home has net zero energy use. That is, the home produces as much energy as it uses.

What does it take to become an NAHB Certified Green Professional Builder?

The following is excerpted from www.nahbgreen.org:

“Offered by NAHB’s University of Housing, the Certified Green Professional designation is another way building professionals can become educated in, and involved with green building. The designation requires 24 hours of NAHB-approved training, and additional continuing education every two years. Subjects covered in training discuss how green homes provide buyers with lower energy costs and higher value, and will include strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. The designation curriculum requires completion of the Green Building for Building Professionals two-day course and either the Business Management for Building Professionals one-day course or having another current NAHB professional designation. Upon successful completion, that individual is awarded the CGP designation, recognizing a high degree of professional competence. This designation is available to individuals only, and does not apply to companies, nor to specific homes or projects.”
